STEM CELL TREATMENT OF CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE
The term cardiovascular disease technically refers to any disease affecting the cardiovascular system, but is usually used to refer to atherosclerosis, a specific form of arteriosclerosis.
As atherosclerosis has generally been advancing for a long time before the first symptoms emerge, most patients diagnosed with heart problems already suffer from well progressed atherosclerosis. After the heart attack there is damage to the heart cell and results in scar formation. The heart muscles can be repaired by stem cell treatment. CD 34+ adult stem cells collected from the patients blood. The patients are given a drug to stimulate the production of CD34+ adult stem cells. The stem cell are collected from the blood stream using a process called apheresis and then separated for injection into heart muscles.
The experiments shows potential hope for patient with angina to be more active.
